Building a StewMac Concert Single Cut Ukulele Kit
Trenton Robinson wanted to play a song on a ukulele for his wife Taylor at their wedding in October 2022. I had never built an acoustic instrument before so I bought a ukulele kit from Stewart MacDonald. Here are some photos showing the build and the finished uke.
The Telesito
My brother Grant said ‘Why don’t I have a Butterfield guitar?’ I told him to come and make one and he could have that. I had an extra ash body and maple neck called the Telecito. (The name was just a variation of the original Tomisitocaster, the happy face yellow strat.) He spent the weekend and we made him a guitar.
Guitar Build Stories
A Tele for Tom
Tom loved his guitars. Years ago we made a happy face yellow strat. We chopped up a little Hatchet brand practice guitar and made a full sized Explorer style. Last year I made him a tele for his birthday. It’s not quite happy face yellow though. I liked to hear him play when he thought he was alone.
The Kim-Tone Jazz Bass
Our friend Kim Kuenlen wanted to play bass. Since I was making a black Jazz Bass for Hugh It was just as easy to make one for Kim. She got the cherry red Kim-Tone.
The Byrne Bass
I offered to make a Jazz Bass for my bass playing friend Hugh Byrne. I’ll build the guitar if you buy the hardware said I. Agreed said he. I think he enjoyed shopping for the stuff because some VERY high quality components started arriving at my door.
